Green Waste Collection to restart
The Parish Councilhave been contacted by the refuse collection team at CBC to notify us that the green waste collections will restart in October before ceasing for the winter to clear the back log.
This is the official communication received from CBC, 17th September 2021.
We are pleased to confirm that we will be undertaking a garden waste collection during a two-week period in October. This collection will clear the backlog of waste in resident’s garden bins before the winter period.
We will collect garden waste between 18th October and the 30th of October.
We will follow up with further details in the coming weeks. We will be communicating to the public in a variety of ways.
As you are aware, our contractor FCC have been struggling to recruit enough LGV drivers due to the national shortage. This isn’t something that can be resolved quickly but we absolutely wanted to get round to all our residents and empty their garden waste bins (or bags if they use them instead) before the winter season starts. To facilitate this, we will redeploy crews from the weekly food waste collection to collect garden waste for the two weeks. This means that food waste will not be collected during this period.
Although, we normally collect food waste every week, these are smaller containers and much quicker for us to collect. However, it takes two weeks for us to get round to all 120,000 properties to collect garden waste. That’s why we need to temporarily suspend the food waste collection for the full two-week period.
During this two-week window, residents are asked to place their garden waste bin or their two Council issued bags at the kerbside instead of their food waste bins, from 7am. This should be done on the day residents normally have their recycling collected.
If residents are unable to wait until for food waste collections to resume (from the 1st Nov) to dispose of their food waste, we would recommend either home composting or disposal in their household waste.
To further help Central Bedfordshire Residents manage their waste, from Monday 27th September, our residents will no longer need to book a slot at their local Household Waste Recycling Centres (tidy tips).
Our permit system will be reinstated again from Monday 27th September. Trade and commercial waste is only accepted as a paid service at Thorn Turn HWRC and residents will need to book online for vans, large trailers and certain materials, please check our website for further details.
Please share this information in your communities and encourage residents to check the website for the latest information.
We will be sharing a video statement on our social media channels, please feel free to share this on your social media pages.
